MYOB Account Edge in a multi-user environmentMacintosh lovers will be happy to hear that there's now an edition of MYOB AccountEdge available for networks. The standard Network Edition includes three workstation licenses with a recommended retail price of $1,698. And ... the word out on the street is that this new version of MYOB AccountEdge runs like a dream (in times gone by, using AccountEdge over a network was like pulling teeth). Other Macintosh specific features included in the Network Edition include iCal integration, MobileMe backup, and the ability to sync information with your MAC OSX Address Book. If you have both PCs and Macs on your network, you'll probably want to explore alternative solutions. The first is that you install Terminal Services on a PC server in the office and run MYOB Premier Enterprise (that’s the PC version of MYOB) on that machine. Each Macintosh workstation then ‘logs in’ to this server and runs MYOB remotely (see the MYOB Premier Enterprise page for more about Terminal Services and how it works). Another solution, and one that works really well if you don’t want to go down the relatively expensive path of Terminal Services, is to host your MYOB company file on a remote server. You then can log into your company file via a remote desktop connection. This may sound very hi-tech, but in fact data hosting is a very stable and easy way of working. There are no speed problems at all, even if you connect via a dial-up connection. The benefits of working in this way mean you get all the advantages of Terminal Services but with none of the setup expense and ongoing maintenance. You also have your company file readily available from wherever you are in the world. You can access your MYOB company file from any computer anywhere — you can even log in from home in the evening and continue work from there — and other people such as your accountant can readily access your data in this same way. (For a hosting service that specialises in both MYOB software and the Macintosh environment — what more could you ask for? — check out www.appserve.com.au. Hosting costs a modest $40 per month per user.) << Return to accounting software comparison page
